Electroplating


Nanodiamond suspensions are widely used in electroplating. Nanodiamond additives to galvanic electrolytes significantly improve mechanical properties of coated surfaces:
1. Increase in the wear resistance:
  • Cr + nanodiamonds: 2-12 times
  • Ni + nanodiamonds: 4-9 times
  • Cu + nanodiamonds: 9-10 times
  • Au + nanodiamonds: 1.8-5.5 times
  • Ag + nanodiamonds: 4-12 times
  • Sn + nanodiamonds: 3 times
  • Al + nanodiamonds: 10-13 times
2. Increase in the microhardness:
  • Cr + nanodiamonds: up to 1400-1500 kg/mm
  • Ni + nanodiamonds: up to 800-900 kg/mmü C
  • Cu + nanodiamonds: up to 160 kg/mm
  • Ag + nanodiamonds: up to 180 kg/mm
  • Au + nanodiamonds: up to 250 kg/mm
  • Al + nanodiamonds: up to 600-700 kg/mm
3. Decrease in the porosity of a coating layer:
  • Zn + nanodiamonds: 6-8 times lower
  • Sn + nanodiamonds: 7 times lower
  • Au + nanodiamonds: 6 times lower
  • Ag + nanodiamonds: 8 times lower
  • Cu + nanodiamonds: poreless coating
4. Improvement of corrosion resistance:
  • Cu + nanodiamonds: no reduction of mass observed in standard tests
  • Zn + nanodiamonds: resistance increased 2-4 times

Nanodiamonds in electrolytes increase in the product durability by the factor of 2-15 times.
